Bas Dost's sole goal gives win
Heracles continued their encouraging start to the season with a narrow 1-0 win at Willem II thanks to Bas Dost's second-half goal.
Striker Dost's 66th-minute goal owed a lot to good luck as his mis-hit shot wrong-footed Willem II goalkeeper
Maikel Aerts but it was enough to earn victory for a Heracles side with seven points from their first four games.
The visitors might have taken the lead in the sixth minute when Willie Overtoon found himself one on one with Aerts but the keeper saved from the Cameroonian.
Overtoon tried a shot from distance after 16 minutes but it was straight at Aerts, who was also equal to an Everton effort.
New Willem II signing Gerson Sheotahul saw should have done better than direct a close-range header straight at Heracles keeper Martuin Pieckenhagen from Christophe Gregoire's cross in the 23rd minute.
A one-two with Mark-Jan Fledderus played in Everton on the half-hour but his left-footed shot was blocked by Aerts.
Willem II's Brazilian defender Leonardo Veloso got on the end of a Gregoire cross two minutes into the second half but his header was weak and easily saved by Pieckenhagen.
Heracles finally broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when Darl Douglas' cross from the right found Dost on the edge of the six-yard box. The Dutchman attempted a volley only to mishit the ball into the ground, wrong-footing Aerts who could only watch as it bounced over his head into the back of the net.
