FC Cologne draws with 10 men E.Frankfurt

Cologne missed a golden opportunity to record their first win of the Bundesliga season as they were held to a goalless home draw by 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt.

Star signings Lukas Podolski and Maniche had chances for the home side but, despite the dismissal of Patrick Ochs before the hour mark for a professional foul, Eintracht held on for a deserved point.

The game began brightly with Podolski providing the early impetus. The former Bayern Munich forward collected the ball on the left and crossed only to see Milivoje Novakovic just fail to make contact almost on the line.

Eintracht had a chance of their own in the 10th minute when Selim Teber's header went harmlessly over the bar following Christopher Spycher's inch-perfect centre.

Podolski was in amongst it in the 12th minute, this time on the right flank. The forward burrowed infield and advanced towards goal, trying his luck from just outside the box but seeing his powerful left-footed effort fly over.

The action cooled until two minutes before the break when Caio crossed for Eintracht from the left only for Nikos Liberopoulos to divert the ball wide when it looked easier to score.

The visitors were down to 10 men in the 54th minute. Fabrice Ehret broke clear on goal only for Ochs to hack him down and suffer a richly deserved red card.

Summer signing Maniche had a chance to press home Cologne's advantage in the 69th minute when he found himself in space but fired his left-footed effort woefully wide.

That proved to be the last clear chance of the match as the game became increasingly fractious while Eintracht retreated behind the ball.
