PSG impressive start to the season

Paris St Germain continued their impressive start to the season with their first win at Valenciennes since 1977.

Peggy Luyindula, Mevlud Erding and Christophe Jallet were on the scoresheet in a highly entertaining encounter which saw the capital giants take a deserved three points.

PSG goalkeeper Gregory Coupet was called into action in the eighth minute when he had to get down sharply to save Fahid Ben Khalfallah's right-footed free-kick from the edge of the box.

At the other end lively veteran Ludovic Giuly seared down the flank before crossing for Stephane Sessegnon, whose volley was saved well by VA keeper Guy N'Dy Assembe.

Sessegnon set up a chance for Erding in the 20th minute but the header from his free-kick was saved by N'Dy.

Erding remained in the thick of it as he found Luyindula in space only for the forward's shot to be saved by the impressive N'Dy.

Three minutes later, in the 35th minute, Luyindula went one better. Jeremy Clement expertly fed the striker who composed himself before stroking home with his left foot.

Eleven minutes into the second half Erding doubled PSG's lead. N'Dy undid his sterling work by fumbling Sammy Traore's cross, allowing Erding to stab home into an empty net.

Valenciennes pulled one back when Siaka Tiene's free-kick in the 59th minute sailed into the net.

But PSG continued to press unabated and it looked all over when Jallet met Clement's free-kick and converted with aplomb.

However, the hosts ensured a tense finish when two minutes into injury-time, Rudy Mater firing home a stunning drive.
