Totti frustrated after opening defeat

Francesco Totti and Roma were left seething over the referee's decision not to send off Genoa hero Giuseppe Biava for a foul he committed before scoring the winner at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday night.

Biava was the last man and brought down Roma's Jeremy Menez but was not given his marching orders and went on to net the decisive goal in the 83rd minute of a 3-2 home win.

Totti was so bitter that he could not celebrate becoming Serie A's ninth all-time leading scorer with his 179th strike.

"It was a disgrace," he said. "It's incredible what the referee told us.

"When we asked why he had not shown a straight red considering Biava was the last man, he said he was not the last man.

"Either I missed something on the rules or that was a blatant sending-off."

Totti and Co will need to overcome the frustration quickly in order to concentrate on Thursday's return leg in the Europa League play-off against MFK Kosice.

The Romans will then face Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
