Bayern Munich art of insane

Bayern Munich made it two wins in a row as they came from behind to beat Borussia Dortmund 5-1 at the Westfalen Stadion.

Mats Hummels gave the home side a deserved lead in the 10th minute, but Bayern levelled, somewhat fortunately, 10 minutes before the break thanks to Mario Gomez.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery and a brace from Thomas Muller then earned a transformed Bayern all three points to take them back into the upper echelons of the Bundesliga.

Bayern coach Louis van Gaal left Ribery on the bench, but he did give Arjen Robben his first start alongside Ivica Olic and Mario Gomez in the attack.

But there was little to see from all three as Dortmund dominated early on.

They almost went ahead in the fifth minute when Mohamed Zidan took the ball round Hans-Jorg Butt, but his pass back across goal was diverted behind by the retreating Bayern goalkeeper.

The hosts were rewarded for their persistent early pressure when former Bayern defender Hummels headed them ahead in the 10th minute, placing Nuri Sahin's free-kick beyond Butt without a challenge in sight.

Dortmund were showing that the best way to tame Robben was to not allow him possession in the first place and the hero of Bayern's first win of the season a fortnight ago was more noticeable by his absence.

It took the Dutchman until 10 minutes before the break to finally get the ball and show what he is capable of with a dash down the right and a perfect cross for Gomez, who did not get enough behind his header to cause Roman Weidenfeller any problems in the Dortmund goal.

Gomez took his next chance, though, heading Bayern level from close range in the 36th minute.

Dortmund could have felt aggrieved at conceding an equaliser, given their excellent first half, but they could have no complaints about conceding more in the second half as Bayern took control of the situation.

Ribery replaced Gomez at the start of the second half and he was straight into the action, setting the ball in motion for Schweinsteiger to put Bayern ahead with a low shot from just outside the area.

And the Frenchman then dispelled any rumours of a rift between himself and Van Gaal by running straight to the Dutch coach to celebrate his stunning free-kick goal in the 64th minute which sealed the points for the Bavarians.

Muller made the win even more emphatic with a late brace.

He beat Weidenfeller at the third attempt after the Dortmund goalkeeper had denied Robben and Schweinsteiger in the 78th minute and then he drilled a shot just under the crossbar from outside the penalty area two minutes from time.
