Mario Gomez expects to be fit against Azerbaijan
Germany are confident Mario Gomez will be ready to face Azerbaijan in World Cup qualifying this week, despite picking up a knee injury in the friendly victory over South Africa.
Gomez scored in Saturday's 2-0 win but came off at half-time, nursing the injury.
The Bayern Munich striker missed Sunday morning's training session, but the problem is not thought serious enough to keep him out of Wednesday's match.
Even if Gomez does not make the starting XI, Germany should not want for goalscoring options in Hanover.
Lukas Podolski impressed after replacing Gomez - while Mesut Ozil, Werder Bremen's young attacking midfielder, created the first before opening his international account in the second half.
"We had a lot of good ideas and much better flow to our play than last time out," coach Joachim Low told kicker.
"We had some young players here, and Mesut brought a lot of creativity into the game.
"He has good vision and demonstrated his great potential."
Gomez was also impressed with Ozil and he believes the 20-year-old could be a good find for the team.
He said: "Germany haven't had a player like Mesut for a long time. We're lucky to have such a player."
Ozil himself was pleased to make a good impression.
He said: "I wanted to give everything, and it all went well for me.
"I'm glad I had a good game. I'm very satisfied. We played very well as a team."
