Feyenoord edge narrow win

Feyenoord boosted their title hopes as Denny Landzaat's goal proved enough to see off promoted VVV Venlo 1-0 on Saturday.

The result took the Rotterdam giants level on points with third-placed Ajax, who take on AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie on Sunday.

Roy Makaay's ball into the box should have been easy for Venlo goalkeeper Kevin Begois to deal with, but he made a hash of it and Landzaat was on hand to score.

Erik Falkenburg capped a stunning hat-trick with the 90th-minute winner as Sparta Rotterdam moved above ADO Den Haag in the table with a 3-2 victory.

Falkenburg twice put the visitors in the lead, with Danny Buys and Charlton Vicento grabbing the equalisers.

That left the stage for Falkenburg to take advantage of a calamitous defensive mix-up to tap home the winning goal.

Willy Overtoom and Sebastian Steur scored in each half as Heracles Almelo claimed all three Eredivisie points against a shot-shy Vitesse side with a 2-0 win in Arnhem.

Overtoom opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before Steur doubled the advantage with 12 minutes remaining.

A solitary strike from Anthony Lurling was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for NAC Breda over the Eredivisie's bottom club RKC Waalwijk.

The result means the visitors, who also lost Gijs Luirink to a late red card, remain marooned on three points, while NAC recorded a fifth win of the league campaign.

On Friday night FC Utrecht claimed a 2-1 home victory over Roda.

Jacob Mulenga struck the opener two minutes before the break, and Ricky van Wolfswinkel added a second after 74 minutes.

Willem Janssen's stoppage-time strike proved merely consolation for Roda.
