Harry Kewell takes Galatasaray through to last 32

Galatasaray, Shakhtar Donetsk and Werder Bremen have booked their places in the last 32 of the Europa League after securing wins on Thursday night.

Goals from Harry Kewell, Shabani Nonda and Mehmet Topal made it a satisfying night for Galatasaray as they defeated Dinamo Bucharest 3-0 Group F.

Shakhtar Donetsk booked their place in the last 32 with a 2-0 victory in Toulouse.

Second-half goals from Luiz Adriano and Oleksiy Gai earned the defending champions their fourth successive win in Group J.

Werder Bremen scored twice in the final nine minutes to secure a 2-0 home victory over Austria Vienna in Group L, and with it a place in the knockout stages.

Tim Borowski finally opened the scoring in the 81st minute and Hugo Almeida capped off his first game since August with the second goal three minutes later.

Kostas Katsouranis' goal earned Panathinaikos victory over Sturm Graz to move them within touching distance of the second qualifying spot from Group F.

A point against Galatasaray in two weeks will be enough to send the Greeks through to the next round.

Club Brugge put themselves in pole position to claim second place in Group J with a 4-2 win at Partizan Belgrade.

Brugge were 2-0 up at the break through Ivan Perisic and Rostand Kouemaha, before the sides traded goals in the second period - Kouemaha and Vadis Odjija responding to strikes from Adem Ljajic and Washington.

Mladen Krstajic was sent off late on for Partizan for picking up two yellow cards.

Athletic Bilbao will have to wait to book their place in the last 32 after being held by Nacional in Group L.

The Spaniards dominated the game but Nacional took the lead through Edgar's 64th minute penalty.

But after Miguel Nuno Pinto was sent off 11 minutes from time, Athletic finally made the breakthrough with Joseba Exteberria equalising from the penalty spot.

Genoa revived their hopes of reaching the last 32 of the Europa League with a last-gasp 3-2 win over Lille at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Group B.

Rodrigo Palacio gave Genoa the lead in the 15th minute, and Hernan Crespo added a second just short of the hour mark.

Lille hit back with goals from Pierre Alain Frau in the 77th minute and an equaliser from Gervinho five minutes from time - but there was one further twist as Giuseppe Sculli grabbed a winner deep into stoppage time.

Valencia missed the chance to take a stranglehold on Group B after they allowed struggling Slavia Prague to battle back from 2-0 down to draw despite playing with 10 men for most of the second half.

With Lille losing in Genoa, in-form Valencia looked set to take over top spot after going ahead in Prague through Joaquin Sanchez's first-half penalty and Hedwiges Maduro's thunderbolt at the start of the second period, before Slavia lost Zdenek Senkerik to a red card in the 49th minute.

However, Slavia made a mockery of their dismal recent record in Europe - they had won just one of their previous 22 victories on the continent - by hitting back to take a share of the spoils thanks to late goals from Petr Janda (79) and Peter Grajciar (82), before Valencia's misery was compounded when they had Ruben Baraja sent off in injury-time.

Hapoel Tel Aviv all but booked their place in the knockout stages with a 3-0 win over Rapid Vienna in Group C.

Goals from Avichai Yadin, Gil Vermouth and Bebars Natcho earned the Israeli club the win in Vienna, and it amounts to a rout when added to the 5-1 victory Hapoel enjoyed when they played Rapid at home earlier in the group stages.

The win sees Hapoel move on to nine points and top spot, needing only one further point from their two remaining games to book a place in the last 32.

Basle coasted to a 3-1 victory at home to Group E strugglers CSKA Sofia to go two points clear at the top of the table.

The Swiss began the game with a one-point advantage over Fulham - but after the Cottagers' defeat at Roma, the Italians are Basle's nearest challengers.

A goal in each half from Alexander Frei and one before the break from Marcos Gelabert did the trick for the hosts, who soon regained control after Todor Yanchev got one back for CSKA early in the second half.

AEK Athens and BATE Borisov are both still in with a chance of progressing to the next stage after a hard-fought 2-2 draw in Group I.

Ismael Blanco had AEK in front in under 30 seconds of a hectic first half, which also featured a Vitaly Rodionov equaliser, a second BATE goal from Alexander Volodko and finally a second too for the hosts - from Gustavo Manduca.

Anderlecht remain top of Group A after a convincing 3-1 victory over Timisoara.

Matias Suarez put the home side in front from the penalty spot after 29 minutes but Winston Parks equalised early in the second period.

Mbark Boussoufa headed Anderlecht back in front 20 minutes from time before Jonathan Legear sealed the win deep into injury time.

In Thursday night's other Group A clash, Ajax put themselves on the brink of qualification for the last 32 with a 2-0 win away to nine-man Dinamo Zagreb.

Marko Pantelic scored the opener after 14 minutes and Demy de Zeeuw added a second in first-half stoppage time.

Valeri Domovchiyski scored twice and Artur Wichniarek struck in second-half stoppage time as Hertha Berlin beat Heerenveen 3-2 for their first victory in the Europa League and stay in the running in Group D.

Michal Papadopulos twice gave Heerenveen the lead in the third and 36th minutes only to see Domovchiyski equalise after 21 and 52 minutes.

Wichniarek won the points for Hertha in the first minute of injury time.

In Group D's other match, Sporting Lisbon will have to wait a little while longer to book their place in the last 32 after losing their 100 per cent record by drawing 1-1 with Ventspils at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Ventspils took the lead in the 14th minute when Alessandro Zamperini headed home Juris Laizans' free-kick from the right.

However, the visitors, who saw their hopes of a fourth successive league title left in tatters at the weekend, enjoyed that advantage for only seven minutes before Carlos Saleiro drew Sporting level with another header.

Villarreal kept their hopes alive with an incident-packed 4-1 victory over Lazio in Group G.

Robert Pires put the home side in front with less than two minutes gone and Lazio were reduced to 10 men moments later.

Ruben Cani (13) made it 2-0 and the game was effectively over when Pires scored his second from the penalty spot after 14 minutes.

Villarreal were also reduced to 10 men after 31 minutes when Gonzalo Rodriguez was dismissed, but Pasquale Foggia blasted the resulting penalty off the bar.

Mauro Zarate (73) did pull one back eventuallybut Giuseppe Rossi slotted home another penalty eight minutes from the end.

Salzburg are on the verge of the last 32 after snatching a dramatic 1-0 victory over Levski Sofia.

Franz Schiemer's header four minutes into injury time gave the visitors all three points to put them six points clear at the top of Group G.

Fenerbahce put themselves in control of Group H with a routine 3-1 victory over struggling Steaua Bucharest.

The teams were level at half-time after Andre Santos and Pantelis Kapetanos traded goals, but Bilica and Alex scored for the Turkish side in the second side to give them a deserved win.

Miroslav Stoch's double improved FC Twente's hopes of reaching the last 32 as they defeated Sheriff 2-1.

Stoch had opened the scoring but an own goal midway through the second half from Twente substitute Cheik Tiote appeared to have earned the visitors a point.

However, Stoch struck in the 89th minute at De Grolsch Veste to move Steve McClaren's men three points clear of third-placed Sheriff.

PSV Eindhoven fought out a 1-1 draw with FC Copenhagen at Parken to remain in the driving seat in Group K.

Jesper Gronkjaer's first-half penalty was cancelled out by Balazs Dzsudzsak for the Dutch visitors, but their lead at the top was cut to one point by Sparta Prague after they beat Cluj 3-2.

Jan Holenda's two first-half goals - and the Bony Wilfred's latest winner - helped Sparta secure victory.

Holenda had Sparta in charge early on - and they retained the advantage over opponents who finished the match with nine men, despite Lacina Traore's initial reply and a second equaliser from Sebastian Dubarbier.
