Ajax close the gap


Ajax closed the gap on the top two in De Eredivisie with a comfortable 3-0 win over struggling NEC Nijmegen at the Amsterdam ArenA.

The home side were frustrated by NEC in the opening exchanges until the broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half-time through top scorer Luis Suarez.

Slem de Jong came off the bench to add a second on 65 minutes to put Ajax in firm control.

Mitchell Donald completed the scoring for Ajax 12 minutes to keep them in contention with FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven at the top of the table.

The win moves Ajax to within six points of leaders FC Twente, while NEC remain second from bottom.
