Felix praises Schalke despite losing

Schalke manager Felix Magath praised his team despite seeing them slip to a first defeat in 10 matches.

The Royals Blues lost 1-0 at Borussia Monchengladbach, for whom Marco Reus was on target in the fifth minute, as they lost their first match away from home this season.

Schalke would have gone top of the Bundesliga table with a victory, but Magath was not too downhearted after the loss and claimed he has been impressed by his side's start to the campaign.

"It is not all that tragic," he said. "It is still astonishing that we have so few defeats with such a young team."

Magath still, though, saw plenty of room for improvement, particularly in attack after his side drew a blank for only the third time this season.

"We are struggling at the moment to do any better in attack - we are lacking organisation and self-confidence," he said.

"The will was there, but we chose the wrong means and, therefore, we deserved to lose."

Schalke's best chance of the game fell to defender Benedikt Howedes five minutes from the end, but he could not find the net.

Monchengladbach coach Michael Frontzeck was delighted to see his side stretch their unbeaten run to five games to move further clear of the relegation zone.

"I have got to pay my side a huge compliment for their efforts," he said.

"We have certainly looked technically better in other games, even in ones where we have not won, but I am delighted with the win.

"We have managed to remain in touch with the teams in mid-table."
