Arne Friedrich moving on
Germany international defender Arne Friedrich is set to leave Hertha Berlin following their relegation to the second division after his contract was not extended.
The 30-year-old's deal will be terminated automatically due to the club's relegation to the second division, although his departure was not certain until he learned that the club was not going to make him an offer to stay.
"My agent has spoken with (Berlin's director of sport) Michael Preetz and it was not the case that Hertha would have even made me an offer," he told local television station RBB.
"Therefore, it looks like I will be leaving the club in one way or another."
Friedrich appeared disappointed that the Old Lady had not even tried to tempt him to stay with the club and try and help them bounce back to the Bundesliga at the first attempt.
"I don't want to comment on that," he said. "I have been here for eight years and, for those eight years, I have always given my best."
