Ribery ready to try playmaker role
Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery has declared himself willing to try the position he has been earmarked to fill by coach Louis van Gaal.
Van Gaal wants Ribery to play in the playmaker role behind his two strikers, but the player's initial reaction was to state his preference to play out wide on the left.
Since Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller and more recently Miroslav Klose have failed to impress in the support role, and since no more funds appear to be available to sign a ready-made option, Ribery says he will now give it a go.
"I will try out the number 10 position and see how it goes," he told Sport Bild magazine.
"I will trust the view of our experienced coach, who sees me playing there."
Ribery has played a total of just under half an hour in his side's first three games this season due to injury, but is hopeful of returning this weekend when they face high-flying Wolfsburg in a crucial fixture at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern could find themselves already eight points adrift of the league leaders when they take to the field on Sunday evening and cannot afford to lose any more ground after their worst start to a Bundesliga season in 43 years.
