Utrecht win again, Twente held

FC Utrecht made it two wins out of two to start the new Eredivisie season as they edged out Willem II 1-0 on Sunday.

Francis Dickoh got the only goal of the game six minutes before half-time to keep Utrecht level on points with Ajax at the top of the table.

Willem II coach Alfons Groenendijk was sent off late in the first half on a frustrating afternoon for the visitors.

PSV Eindhoven are still waiting for their first Eredivisie win of the season after drawing 1-1 with FC Twente on Sunday afternoon.

Balazs Dzsudzsak equalised after Douglas had given Twente the lead, but neither side could add to their tally in an entertaining clash.

ADO Den Haag let slip a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 at VVV-Venlo and finished the match with nine men.

Wesley Verhoek and Ricky van den Bergh's penalty gave the visitors a comfortable lead with less than half an hour gone.

But Keisuke Honda pulled one back for VVV eight minutes from the break and their chances of getting something from the match increased when Karim Soltani was sent-off for a second bookable offence shortly after the hour mark.

Honda levelled matters in the 76th minute and ADO's misery was complete when Van den Bergh also saw red.

Both sides missed gilt-edged chances as Vitesse Arnhem and Feyenoord had to settle for a goalless draw.

Vitesse will count themselves unlucky after seeing one Lasse Nilsson effort hit the post and another cleared off the line.

But Leroy Fer should have won it at the death for Feyenoord only to place a free header over the bar.

NAC Breda and Heracles Almelo played out a dire 0-0 draw at the Rat Verlegh Stadion.

The match took place in an empty stadium as NAC had been ordered to play behind closed doors and the lack of atmosphere had an effect as the players never really got going.

Heracles had recorded an impressive victory against Eredivisie champions AZ Alkmaar in the season opener last week, while NAC also won, but neither goalkeeper was really troubled on Saturday.

On Saturday Ajax won their second game of the season with Luis Suarez hitting a hat-trick in a 4-1 rout of 10-man RKC Waalwijk.

Although Gregory van der Wiel saw his 10th-minute strike rubbed out by Benjamin De Ceulaer after 31 minutes, the dismissal of Wouter Gudde turned the match.

Gudde was given his marching orders after 70 minutes for a challenge on Suarez, who then stepped up to convert from the penalty spot and restore Ajax's lead.

The Uruguayan striker added two more after 82 and 90 minutes to seal the win.

FC Groningen are still searching for their first win of the campaign as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Roda JC.

Anouar Hadouir fired Roda in front after 19 minutes only for Goran Lovre to level matters on the half-hour mark.

Groningen's hopes of claiming three points were dashed though when Danny Holla was sent off after 51 minutes.

On Friday night defending Eredivisie champions AZ Alkmaar beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-0 to record their first three-point haul of the season.

AZ lost their opening fixture at Heracles Almelo but goals from Moussa Dembele and Mounir El Hamdaoui secured a first win of 2009/10.

Belgium striker Dembele opened the scoring for Alkmaar after six minutes when he converted a pass from last year's top scorer El Hamdaoui.

Alkmaar were still not at their best and missed several chances but after 64 minutes captain Stijn Schaars set up El Hamdaoui to double their lead and seal the victory.

NEC Nijmegen kickstarted their season with a resounding win over Heerenveen.

The home side bounced back from a 2-0 defeat away to Feyenoord on the opening day with a 4-1 victory courtesy of a dominant display.

Goals from Bjorn Vleminckx, who scored two, Erton Fejzullahu and Youssed El Akchaoui sealed an easy win before Michael Papadopulos' late consolation.
