Vitesse Arnhem wins the thriller
Vitesse Arnhem edged a thrilling match at Roda JC 4-3 to record their first win of the new Eredivisie season.
Vitesse were quick off the mark with a goal in the first minute from Lasse Nilsson but had to wait for their other scorers - Nicky Hofs three minutes before the break, substitute Sinan Kaloglu 14 minutes from time and Santi Kolk with the winner seconds before the final whistle.
Roda did not go quietly on their home patch thanks to a 27th-minute equaliser from Mads Junker, Frank Van der Struijk's own goal which made it all square again early in the second half and an Anouar Hadouir effort to put his team 3-2 in front on the hour.
Nilsson opened the scoring, after a defensive slip from Eric Addo allowed Kolk to put his team-mate in for a close-range finish.
Just after the quarter hour, Junker almost equalised with a 20-yard effort which was well-saved by Piet Velthuizen. Soon afterwards, Junker did level, set up by a Willem Janssen cross.
Hofs put Vitesse back in front, from close range after a Kolk cross.
But Van der Struijk's failed attempt to clear a Junker cross saw him put the ball past his own goalkeeper, and then Hadouir scored from inside the area on the end of a Boldizsar Bodor free-kick.
Vitesse hit back again, though, when another Kolk cross found Kaloglu - who stuck the ball in the corner - and then after Hadouir had hit the bar in the 84th minute, Kolk fittingly settled the match with the best goal of the lot when he beat Bram Castro with a right-foot shot from 25 yards.
