Schalke share with Wolfsburg
Felix Magath guided his new side Schalke into a share of the Bundesliga lead with his old club Wolfsburg thanks to a convincing 3-0 win over Bochum at the Arena AufSchalke on Sunday.
Christoph Moritz and Heiko Westermann scored late in the first half to give Schalke a comfortable advantage at the interval and Jefferson Farfan sealed the win in the 76th minute.
Borussia Monchengladbach moved up to third thanks to a 2-1 victory against Hertha Berlin in their first home game of the season.
Roel Brouwers put Gladbach ahead against the run of play in the 23rd minute before Karim Matmour added a second in the 52nd.
Gojko Kacar reduced the arrears immediately, but he then missed a golden opportunity to equalise as he struck the woodwork in the final seconds.
On Saturday, defending champions Wolfsburg won 3-1 at Cologne - spoiling the much-heralded homecoming of Lukas Podolski in the process.
Podolski was making his first appearance in three years for Cologne at the Mungersdorfer Stadion after rejoining from Bayern Munich but the Germany international was overshadowed by another impressive display from Wolfsburg.
It was going well for the home side when Fabrice Ehret put them ahead four minutes after half-time.
But Edin Dzeko equalised with 17 minutes to go and an own goal from Pierre Wome a minute later turned the game on its head.
New signing Obafemi Martins clinched it for Armin Veh's men in the 86th minute.
Hamburg are second following a 4-1 thrashing of Borussia Dortmund.
An explosive start saw Paolo Guerrero and Nelson Valdez trade goals before efforts from Ze Roberto and Guerrero gave the hosts a 3-1 lead inside 12 minutes.
Marcus Berg grabbed a fourth for Hamburg shortly after coming off the bench.
Eintracht Frankfurt and Nurnberg drew 1-1 - Caio's opener for the hosts cancelled out by Albert Bunjaku - while Stefan Kiessling scored a fortunate winner as Bayer Leverkusen edged out Hoffenheim 1-0.
Bayern Munich managed their second draw in as many Bundesliga games after a 1-1 stalemate at home to Werder Bremen.
Mesut Ozil put Bremen ahead six minutes before the break but new signing Mario Gomez levelled for Bayern with 18 minutes remaining.
Pavel Pogrebnyak scored his first goal for Stuttgart as they beat Freiburg 4-2.
Pogrebnyak, who joined from Zenit St Petersburg in the summer, opened his Bundesliga account in the 53rd minute.
Elson made it two from the penalty spot and added another after Mohammadou Idrissou had pulled one back for the visitors.
Newly-promoted Freiburg would not lie down, though, and Idrissou again put them within one, Julian Schieber only putting the result beyond doubt a minute from time.
Hannover coach Dieter Hecking saw the pressure on him ease marginally as his team picked up their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw against Mainz.
The visitors had barely had a sight on goal all game but took the lead three minutes into the second half through half-time substitute Aristide Bance.
However, Jiri Stajner levelled matters from the spot just eight minutes later to earn a deserved point for Hannover.
